Make 2014 Your Healthiest Year Yet With These Exercise Tips!
The New Year is full of new opportunities, new enthusiasm and new commitments to change one’s life for the better.
One common goal around the New Year is to get healthier through exercise. With just a few weeks left until the ball drops, if you’re planning to start a new exercise routine next year, here are a few tips to make it easier.
Tip #1: Consult your doctor. It is important to make sure you are physically ready before you begin any exercise program, especially if you’re not typically active. Our providers at Healthy Habits Medical Weight Loss Centers can advise you on how to approach a new exercise routine and tell you what signs to look for if you’re overdoing it.
Tip #2: Set small goals. Setting unrealistic goals like running a marathon or going to the gym every day can be difficult to achieve. Set a goal that isn’t overwhelming so you are able to motivate yourself. Smaller goals, like going to the gym once a week for three weeks are more realistic. Once you’ve accomplished one smaller goal, you can step it up. For example, going to the gym twice a week for three weeks. Soon you’ll be going to the gym every day.
Tip #3: Reward yourself. When you reach a goal, reward yourself. For example, when you reach your goal of going to the gym once a week, you could buy yourself some workout music or get a new piece of workout clothing. When you reach the final goal of going every day, treat yourself to a new wardrobe, because by now you’re probably looking pretty awesome!
Tip #4: Mix it up. It’s easy to get into a rut when beginning a new workout routine. To maintain your motivation, consider a few exercises or sports you enjoy. For example, if you’re running two or three times a week, consider walking or riding your bike on the other days.
Tip #5: Exercise with friends. Friends make exercise fun and can also motivate and challenge you to push yourself a little farther.
Starting a new exercise routine is a great way improve your health and lose weight. Remember that you are not alone in your journey to a healthier lifestyle. What are some ways you like to exercise?
Happy (almost) New Year!
